More WP Responder Release Updates

I spent the better part (actually all of it) of my weekend on finding and removing bugs from WP Responder. There have been more problems in the plugin that I previously thought. I just couldn’t get myself to release the plugin knowing that these bugs exist in the plugin.

Some other bugs I have recently found and removed:

  • In the new e-mail broadcast page, clicking on disable WYSIWYG editor and then click on enable again creates an additional text box below the WYSIWYG editor.
  • All kinds of email delivery such as broadcasts,  blog posts, post series, autoresponder series are delayed by [offset of the timezone at which you - the user is  located].
  • When the subscriber subscribes to your newsletter the Subscription Confirmed e-mail does not have the link to the manage subscription page (reported by a user).
  • When you schedule a broadcast and then try to reschedule it, it always says you are trying to schedule the broadcast in the past.
  • When you schedule a broadcast with HTML disabled and then edit the broadcast again, the HTML is shown to be enabled.
  • When you select the attach images option in the new broadcast page, the settings is not saved and is set to enabled always.

What’s New In WP Responder 4.9.1?

I know I said there will be no new features in the plugin but a little foresight demanded that I implement these two features.

Update Notifications

Some of the users of WP Responder have been downloading the plugin from the WP Responder website. Some of you have been downloading it from the WordPress plugin extend website. Currently it is not possible for me to issue updates on the plugin to all of you. So I have implemented a new feature to automatically check for a new update periodically with my server and then notify you by e-mail when an update is available.

Tutorial Series

Apart from the update notifications I have also implemented a tutorial series feature. The plugin will automatically send you a series of articles by e-mail showing you how to use it and get the most out of it after you activate it. Optional of course.

When Will I Release This Plugin?

Some time this week. There is still a lot of testing  to be done. I anticipate the testing and debugging to be finished this week completely.

I want this plugin myself!

Here’s the strange thing. I am dying to get started using this plugin. This plugin is beginning to get awesome even for me. There is so much I can do with it. I am sure you are looking forward to it too.

Look forward to it! Stay tuned!

    Raj,

Thanks for the update! It would not be a stretch to say that we are on pins and needles too.

    Here’s the thing…
If the problem with choking the WP UI is fixed, go a head and let it go.
In order to do anything on our blogs (Post, Widgets) we have to disable the your plugin entirely. (This means that we don’t see your update notices)

I’ve been activating and deactivating all weekend to see if the update is there. Talk about anticipation!

Hi. Nice looking plugin. I assume that you know subscriber import is not working. Is there any workaround for this? (manually create file / table?)
    Cheers, and thanks again.

  • Raj July 14th, 2010 at 8:12 am

    Paul,

A work around is currently not possible. The new version of the plugin will be available soon. You will get a notification about it in your administration panel.

    Nat,

You don’t have to activate the plugin to find out if an update is available. WordPress will alert you to updates available on deactivated plugins also.

    Hey there,

my anti-virus client is choking on the file viewbroadcast.php. It says that it contains patterns of the JavaScript virus JS/Zhelatin.zb

I assume this is a false alarm, just wanted to let know.

    Raj –

So far this plug in looks like exactly what I need, I have been waiting for the 4.9.1 update and was just able to automatically update to version 4.9.1. However, I still cannot get the confirmation link to show up in the email and I dont see a way for me to manually confirm someone.

Do you have any suggested work-arounds so that people can subscribe to my blog?

    Thanks again for the plugin!

  • Raj July 15th, 2010 at 7:48 pm

    @Linguambition

There is absolutely no virus in the plugin I’ve written. Nothing malicious. Nothing to take control of your server or computer. Thanks for letting me know of this issue.

Hey I just wanted to say that my problem was me not entering the correct information when I generated the forms and emails for the confirmation. Posted a note on here and Raj got in touch with me and straightened my issue out.

    Thanks Raj!

    Hi Raj,

I have found two issues with your plugin:

    1. I have wordpress 3.0 running with the Multi-user function enabled. With the help of the domain mapping plugin, I am running two different blogs with the same wp installtion. WP responder works on the main domain, but not on the secondary. On the secondary domain, I am unable to create a newsletter.

    2. Importing subscribers manually is vital to me. I sometimes want to add subscribers from my Outlook, for example. I failed importing subscribers manually and could not find any documentation about the structure of the csv files.

    3. I would like to import my users from another newsletter plugin, but I cannot do this due to the import problem mentioned above.

    4. I am working with widgets on my blog and I am not skilled in manual coding. Can you create a widget in order to be able to put the subscription form in the sidebar without coding? This would be wonderful!

If the widget function and the import issue would be solved, I recon this would be the best newsletter plugin that I have tried – and I have tried many!

    Greetings,

    Thomas

    Can you help?

    But apart from these issues

    Hi there.
First I want to thank you for this great plugin, but I am having a few issues. When I try to create a new form, I does not save it. I can get the HTML code, but then the form is gone. When I put the HTML on my blog I get this error:
“The newsletter to which you are trying to subscribe doesn’t exist in our records. ”
Even though the newletter exists but not the Form.
I tried inserting manually in the database a form, but since I have no idea what to put in the ” confirm_url ” the form does not work…just takes me to ablank page.
Please let me know if you can help.

    Thanks ahead,

    Tom.

    Raj,

Looking forward to being able to fully implement your plugin. I am noticing a problem at this time when trying to use the subscription form; when I click on the submit button I am directed to my website’s main page with ?wpr-optin=1 added to the end of the URL, but nothing else happens.

  • Michael d. July 28th, 2010 at 11:58 pm

Your plugin seems to be what we’ve been looking for except… When you click submit on the email subscription it just returns with a 404 error. We created a page for confirmation and placed the URL in the subscription form, but doesn’t seem to be working.

    Hi Raj,

Excellent plug in probably you are aware about this bugs but just in case here are the bugs I saw:

    1. Broadcast always are delayed. If you click on All broadcast and try to change the date or hour, it doesn’t work, it keep the time and hour by default.

    2. It will be nice if you can save your broadcasts (newsletter) so you can send it out again and again. I don’t see this feature.

    Regards,

    gw

My WP-Responder is conflicting with CKEditor.

I have CKEditor for my pages, but no editor at all for my posts.

If I deactivate WP-Responder, my CKEditor reappears.

    Any suggestions?

    Scanned with Avira Antivir
    wpresponder-4.9.4.2-stable\viewbroadcast.php
[DETECTION] Contains recognition pattern of the JS/Zhelatin.zb Java script virus.

    Is this file important?

    Thanks
